Introduction :

Department of Physics established in June 1992.The working ara of the department is 202.57 sq.m..Initially the department was run on non-grant basis. The department gets 100% grantable status since academic year 2009-10.The department has two well equipped laboratories named C.V. Raman Lab and Dr.A.P.J. KalamLab.Initially the department was run at B.Sc.II level. In year 2013-14 the physics subject is taught at B.Sc.IIIlevel.The department is inaugurated with the auspicious handof Prof(Dr.) Michael NeumanSpallart, CNRI Lab. France. In year 2009-10 the student strength was merely 35. In year 2016-17 the strength was 372. The department also conducts short term course. Two permanent and four CHB faculties are working in the department and all the faculties are well experienced and highly qualified.

Highlights/ Features of the Department

The department is taking consistent efforts to provide quality education to downtrodden students around Kolhapur city. Department is rich in terms of resources and infra-structure. The department has enough latest audio-visual equipment which supports the ICT teaching/learning.The department has a good collection of eBooks and books in the departmental library.The department possessesgood number of audio-visual CDs and cassettes related to curriculum that enables teachers and students to do the self learning of the subject. The college has also recently started a short term course in Repairing of electronic devices and instruments.

The department organizes Extra-curricular and Co-curricular activities such as seminars, group discussion, projects, parent –teacher meets, guest lectures, debates, study tours, celebrations of important days,Science Club etc. for the overall development of the student.

The department publishes wall paper ‘KALPANA’. The students write about recent happenings in the subject and important scientific events.

Few of our alumni are working as Assistant Professor in the department.Dr.V.V.Killedar is honored with Best Teacher award by Vatsthalya Foundation Kolhapur on the occasion of KamveerJayanti 2014. Dr. Killedaris also a research guide and a lot of good research is happening under him. The department faculty is actively engaged in research and published 30 research papers in international journal of high repute. Many are also invited as guest speakers to other institutions as also as Resource persons for seminars, conferences.

All in all, both the staff and the students of the department have been active in the past and hope to lead the department and college to greater heights in future too.
