Introduction :

Department of Zoology was established in 1992 and it became grantable from June 2010. B.Sc IIIrd year started from academic year 2019-20.The department has well furnished and well equipped laboratory with rich animal museum, charts, models, and instruments. Department has departmental library which comprises 90 reference books and text books for B.Sc I, B.Sc II and B.Sc III students. Department also runs Certificate course in “Vermitechnology” and Skill enhancement course in “Apiculture” for development of skills of applied zoology aspects. Impulse wallpaper published on 15th August and 26th January every year. The Department organizes various national and international workshops, seminars, conferences and Excursion tours to different locations for updating the knowledge for the students concerned with recent developments in Animal Sciences.

AIMS:

1. To impart the knowledge of Animal Science to the pupils.
2. To make the pupil to impart the knowledge during their routine life.
3. To make the pupils aware of Natural Resources and Environment.
4. Application of knowledge in Zoology for improvement of Agriculture & live stock.
5. Demonstration of practicals which forms a part of their learning process.
6. To encourage the pupil to pursue skill oriented Agro based knowledge.

OBJECTIVES:

1. To impart the knowledge about basic science, students are expected to acquire knowledge of animal science, animals in their natural habitat, natural phenomenon & awareness regarding the environment
2. To Understand the scientific terms, various concepts, facts & their interrelationships.
3. To apply the knowledge for upliftment of need of the society.
4. To develop the skill through demonstration, experiments, and instruments.
5. To develop interests in the subject & scientific hobbies.
6. To develop scientific attitude to make the students, open minded and curious for grooming research attitude.
7. To encourage students for appreciation of the subject, contribution of scientists, scientific methods, scientific programs etc.

COURSE INTRODUCTION

As per the norms of Shivaji University, Kolhapur, B.Sc Zoology course is three year integrated degree in which students will encourage to acquire the knowledge and motivate to get employability in various branches of Zoology like Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Environmental Biology, Parasitology, Entomology, Toxicology and Applied Zoology. Students will encourage to pursue post graduate studies in Zoology as well as Biomedical research and in allied industrial sector.
During their completion of curricula students actively participate in field trips, educational excursion visits, project based learning and also for development of leadership quality. Various study tours bring awareness about environmental issues. Practical work is correlated to theory curriculum which encourages students to practice scientific methods. During practical work students will encourage to develop scientific attitude.

DEPARTMENTAL ACTIVITIES:

Department plans and execute various activities for students and teachers which includes
Field visits, excursion, and visit to various industries, research centres and habitats, hands on training to student and farmers meet. Department half yearly publish a wallpaper “Impulse”. Department also organises interdisciplinary skill enhancement courses for the students. Department organises motivational lectures, invited talks, quizzes, seminars, debates, webinars on occasion of specific days.
Department organises national and international workshops, seminars as well as curricular and cocurricular activities for the benefit of society. Students will pursue the knowledge and skill for the independent business for the occupation or Agro based practices.
